Two female MPs turned Parliament buildings into a scene of drama on April 8, 2025, when they engaged in a physical confrontation caught on video.

The confrontation involved ODM-nominated MP Umulkher Harun Mohamed and Falhada Iman, a UDA representative at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

What began as a heated disagreement escalated quickly into a fistfight, with both lawmakers ending up on the ground in a disorderly scuffle that drew attention and sparked widespread reaction.

Videos and images shared on social media captured the moment the two exchanged punches as shocked colleagues rushed to intervene and break up the fight.

The altercation, witnessed publicly, has drawn widespread condemnation for being inappropriate and disgraceful behavior by elected officials.

Amid the turmoil, some voices from the crowd could be heard encouraging the confrontation to continue.

A Parliamentary Sergeant-at-Arms stepped in and tried to separate the two, but the situation remained tense. Other leaders quickly moved to help calm down the visibly upset lawmakers.

Soon after, insults were exchanged between the two, raising questions about why they allowed their emotions to escalate so intensely.

Umulkher from ODM later took to social media to publicly apologize for the incident, expressing regret to the public.

"Today, an unfortunate incident occurred on the parliamentary grounds, a situation I deeply regret both as a Member of Parliament and as a mother. My colleague from the EALA, who has expressed longstanding differences with my work, acted in a manner that I find unacceptable." Umulkheir stated.

"She came to Parliament with the sole intention of attacking me, and the incident blindsided me, leaving me questioning the reasons behind the ambush."

"I sincerely regret this occurrence and want to emphasize that I do not endorse or encourage any form of misconduct," she remarked.

Her EALA and UDA counterparts had not yet commented on the circumstances surrounding the fight.

The development sparked criticism on social media, with users from both sides of the political spectrum condemning the incident.
